History

Dachshund rescue began unofficially in the summer of 1992 when we learned of a female Dachshund and her litter of puppies who were slated for euthanasia at Dallas Animal Control. It was reported to us that the Dachshund and her puppies were all cute and friendly. We were horrified that they were not scheduled for adoption.

The reason? The mother had a slight temperature; the 8 week old puppies were too young and would probably become ill. We picked up the four dogs and then said....what do we do now? After discussion with club members, assistance and advice from other rescue groups and early donations indicating support, we established a set of guidelines and began the process of rescuing Dachshunds.

The first "official" rescued Dachshund was "Adam" who was rescued on August 10, 1992. Since then, we have dealt with numerous illnesses, diseases and problem behaviors. Our goal has been, and will continue to be, to rescue Dachshunds who need a chance at life. In addition to providing a chance for the dogs, we feel a deep responsibility to the people who come to us to provide them with a healthy, lovable family pet.

The Dallas-Ft.Worth Rescue Foundation received official 501C3 status in 1998.
