Annie was a 1-year-old chocolate smooth female dachshund. A young man who had just returned from a tour of duty in Iraq purchased this dog at Trader's Village. Unfortunately, he failed to remember that he was extremely allergic to dogs. He also worked long hours and left Annie alone. The combination of these two things did not make this a good life for Annie; so he surrendered her to DFW Dachshund Rescue.

Annie was spayed and had other needed vet work. We found her an excellent home with a public school teacher who wanted a second companion for she and her older dog. Annie is much loved and now has a great life in her new home.
Jake is an 18 pound red piebald standard male dachshund. He was surrendered by owners who stated that it was not possible to maintain housetraining with this dog and care for their baby. Jake was current on shots and heartworm prevention when he came to rescue. Additional vet care, including microchipping, was provided by our organization. Although the owners had repeatedly stated they had impossible housetraining problems with this dog, Jake showed no problems with housetraining in his foster home.

He was adopted on June 19, 2006, just three weeks after coming into rescue. The couple who adopted him were amazed that anyone would give up a well-mannered and loving dog like Jake. His new family understands that pet ownership is a lifetime responsibility. They have nothing but wonderful things to say about "Jolly Jake's" personality and are enjoying their new companion thoroughly.

Fritz is a sweet and affectionate black and tan smooth male dachshund who is 3 years old. An owner in ill health had fallen on hard times and had Fritz and seven other dachshunds in her home that had to be placed. After a concerned friend contacted us, we worked with Almost Home Dog Rescue and divided the dogs between both groups. Fritz was one of the dogs that came to us.

Fritz loved to cuddle in any available lap, and he had an endearing habit of gently leaning his face against yours. While in foster care, he gained confidence and began to realize that people are fun to be around! He had a favorite stuffed bunny rabbit toy and would bound around his foster home, carrying that toy in his mouth! After he had an extensive amount of vet work done, he was adopted on January 27, 2006 by an individual who had another dog was looking for the "just right" addition to her home. His new owner reports that Fritz is a wonderful dog and she can't imagine her life without him.
